The Art of Nursing – Podcast 157

Happy Nurses Week

Happy Nurses Week

I am participating in a nurses week event. My part of it occurs Thursday evening at 7 PM, for all of those who registered for it.

I am listening to the whole week however, and I am impressed with the  direction that nursing seems to be going. The Affordable Care Act a.k.a. Obamacare has something to do with this new direction in health care.
This is what today’s podcast is all about.
In order to register for Elizabeth Scala’s event here is the link to it.

Truth And Consequences- Podcast 156

Truth and Consequences

Truth and Consequences

Today’s podcast describes a meditation called “Four Powerful Reminders.”

Our lives are Precious.
Our lives are impermanent.
What is the truth of cause and effect?
What is the truth of suffering?
Remember why you are here and who you really are.

Radical Change- Podcast 153

Today’s podcast discusses Radical Change. Change is a part of life, yet no matter what, change happens. It is a prerequisite to life. Yet none of us does very well with change.

I discuss lifestyle changes regarding the food we eat, life style changes regarding those we love who are dying, or as we approach our own death. Birth is a big life change in a parent’s life. Not to mention the baby.
The “The Gentle Birthing Podcast” is evolving. Stay tuned.

GMO Labeling Revisited: Podcast 150

Dr Oz

Dr Oz

I got a call last evening from a physician from Columbia University. He wanted me to know that the doctors who want to oust Dr. Mehmet Oz from the Columbia University faculty are not doctors from Columbia University. We can only surmise that those doctors are GMO advocates (whores).
The doctors at Columbia University may not necessarily agree with Dr. Oz, but they believe in his right to free speech.
Imagine my surprise.
Can we believe anything the mainstream media reports?
My podcast yesterday encouraged people to sign the petition urging Congress not to pass the “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act.” If Congress passes this bill, we will never know what’s in our foods. All past attempts to label foods non GMO will be wiped off the books.
If these Monsanto GMO Genetic Engineering enthusiasts have their way, all Apples will be genetically engineered. Perhaps their goal is to genetically engineer all foods.
These Apples are called: Arctic Apples. When you cut into them, they will never turn brown. I wonder what else they turn brown?
FYI, there’s an old remedy I was raised with. Whenever I was sick with vomiting or diarrhea, we’d blend apples, and have them turn brown, before we ate them. This always settled my tummy miraculously.

Dr Oz Maverick continues- Podcast 149

Junk GMO'd Snacks

Junk GMO’d Snacks

As promised, Dr. Oz did some investigative reporting about the 10 Columbia University physicians who accused him of being a quack. All of them are firmly opposed to GMO labeling that began originally in California, and then from state to state. One, Henry Miller, used to be a key supporter for the tobacco industry and is a firm supporter of pesticides and GMO mass agricultural techniques.

Henry Miller can be for anything he wants, but unfortunately he and his sidekicks want to impose this on everyone in America. There is a key Bill going up for a vote in Congress called the “Safe And Accurate Food Labeling Act.” This bill would take away the American right to know whether foods or GMO’d or not. This law would make it impossible for the FDA to mandate labeling on foods state to state. All previous GMO labeling laws would be wiped off the books.
Have you ever heard of a GMO Apple? It is called the Arctic Apple. They change the blueprint of the Apple by injecting some sort of toxic chemical into it, so that when you cut into the Apple, it will not brown.
When I was a kid, and was recovering from an intestinal virus, we used to cut up apples and wait for them to get brown, and eat them when they were brown for the healing it brought to the stomach. It is an old remedy and it works fantastically. These anti-labeling GMO nuts want to take away our brown apples.
Go to https://takeaction.takepart.com/actions/oppose-the-dark-act and signed the petition to put a halt to the “Safe And Accurate Food Labeling Act.”

Dr Mehmet Oz Maverick- Podcast 148

Healing Is Not Quackery

Healing Is Not Quackery

Dr. Oz stood up to 10 physicians from Columbia University over the last few days. The doctors are accusing Dr. Oz of quackery. His response is, “You may not agree with me, but this is a democracy, the cornerstone of which is free speech.”

Furthermore, Dr. Oz’s  life mission is to offer Americans an avenue to good health practices.
Dr. Oz used to be a Cardiologist at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He employed Therapeutic Touch Healers to meditate in the next room while he performed heart surgery in the surgical suite. The recovery times were consistently cut in half over those who did not have the benefit of Therapeutic Touch Healers in the next room.
Prayer works the same way. Prayers for healing create miracles every time.

In 1998, I wrote a letter to the New York Times which was not published. Nevertheless, the letter addressed a fourth grade science project that sought to disprove the validity of Therapeutic Touch. JAMA (Journal Of The American Medical Association) wrote it up and the New York Times responded soon after.

The New York Times stated that seeking to disapprove or debunk at the onset of any scientific experiment is not the way of pure science. And the nine-year-old fourth grader at the onset of her project set out to do just that.

The article was entitled “A Child’s Paper Poses A Medical Challenge,” written in response to the JAMA article “A Close Look At Therapeutic Touch.”

My letter addressed the JAMA article itself. At the time, I served an indigent population as a Nurse Practitioner in York, Pennsylvania. I practiced one form of energy healing, as taught by Dr. Leonard Laskow, author of Healing With Love, without the permission or knowledge of the attending physician.

When I pray for someone’s recovery, I could ask them for permission and often do, but don’t ask permission of their physician. 20 years later, these attitudes still persist. Dr. Oz is a Maverick and I have the utmost respect for him.

And I love his magazine, The Good Life. It is chock full of health tips. I’ve tried many of them, and they work! Whatever you do, buy it at your local CVS pharmacy or supermarket.

Divine Potential-Podcast 147

Let our animals lead the way.

Let our animals lead the way.

The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.  – Paulo Coelho

Dear Goddess, Thank you for giving us our lives and the ability to live them out according to our earthly commitments. Thank you for all the lessons we agree to learn in this earthly incarnation, with the people in our lives we chose before birth to fulfill our spiritual growth. Thank you for all of it.

I will listen to messages from Divine Potential today through dreams, nature signs, through music I listen to, through pictures and painting and photographs I surround myself with.

I will hear Divine Potential through conversations I have or hear. I will watch the dogs Pearlie and Schizzo and wait for all the messages of love they send my way.

We are all Heroes on this mystic journey we call Life. Sometimes we struggle to make the right choices. We are called upon to rise above mere survival to the pinnacle of self-actualization.

As we work through the symbols that show up, we learn to see with symbolic vision. Emotional and spiritual wounds heal more quickly. We learn to trust in Divine Timing in our lives: that the right people show up at the right moment, and the flow of Divine Blessings is never ending.

We cannot do this with our mind or intellect. We develop the heart’s intuition so that love springs easily with every possible interaction.

The effort involved with all of this is to make the only choices to further our spiritual growth: to love, forgive, let go, and meet resistance with a willingness to try once again perhaps in another season of time, to fulfill our mission in this lifetime.

The Divine works through our animals to teach the universal truths of life. If we are open to this, our spiritual evolution is hastened by what I call a  celestial speed up. When I got Mukunda after 28 years of not having a dog, my perception of love, forgiveness and creativity flourished. I will never go another second without having a dog.

Om Peace Amen

God’s Revolution- Podcast 145

UnojlyuNfOkdNd7T.jpgAs we pray with each in and out breath and welcome the beautiful seasons of the year, I wanted to discuss the canonization of Dorothy Day, as seen from the perspective of James Douglass, author of “JFK: And The Unspeakable.”

I wrote to him and asked him whether the Roman Catholic Church plans to canonize Dorothy Day, founder of The Catholic Worker in
America.
He said it would be helpful to have Dorothy Day canonized as a Saint because she would be known more widely as a result, and DESERVES to be known widely, so that “others can realize God’s Will as Dorothy did.”
He said that she strenuously objected to being canonized, to be identified as a saint, because she thought she’d be easily dismissed that way.
Then he said, “She’d be more tolerant of a process that might actually help people discover God’s revolution in this world as she did,”
I loved this part: “Dorthy inspired many people to what they would consider miracles in their own lives, because she saw God’s awesome possibilities within them. A phrase she often used in speaking of someone was, “He (or she) is a wonder!”
“When a person knew that Dorothy saw that power or possibility in you- which was, of course, true- pushed you beyond your own poor sense of self  to miraculous steps forward. That’s why she was, in fact, a saint.”
Dorothy Day One said “We all have a duty to delight.”  Dorothy rejected the  “one false step God” and embraced the  “no matter what-ness of God,” which all true saints embrace.
Does this mean all of us are saints who embody the no matter whatness of God? Is this the true revolution waiting to happen?
I am thinking about these possibilities, today. How can we support those around us so that they can feel God’s will because of the Love we beam their way? As we give the liberation of unconditional love, acceptance and tolerance to people, the (I Love You) no matter what gift to all we meet,  best exemplified by Canine Consciousness, we are free.
That’s all there is to it.

Music Of The Animals- Podcast 144

IMG_1986.JPG

In our Western culture, although death has come out of the closet, it is still not openly experienced or discussed. Allowing dying to be so intensely present enriches both the preciousness of each moment and our detachment from it.  – Ram Dass

Dear Goddess, Everything, every person, my daily work, every relationship and everyone I meet, everyone I help and helps me, allows me to set my inner compass. All of it helps me work with my personal power. How I work and play with my energy gives insight as to how to give and receive all of the available and endless energy in the world.

Goddess works through the personal power of love, grace and gratitude. Goddess works through our animals, and the messages we receive daily through books, media and chance conversations.

How do we choose to learn from all of these seemingly random stimuli? Do we slow down and pause in order to receive messages coherently and deliberately?

Or does the incoming data speed up our senses and reaction time? Do we walk and breathe faster and allow the mind to run rampant with recycled thoughts?

Today is the day when we wake up collectively to the music of the spheres, the great cosmic messages that are ours if we open to receive them. We can learn to give what we received tenfold because we realize the beauty of the gift.

Look into the eyes of your companion animal, or a dog or cat you happen to meet in your travels. What revelations can be garnered from those soulful windows into the fathomless pool of spirit?

Who is speaking to you through those eyes? Listen without doubt or fear.

Receive the love that brought you into this world.

Om Peace Amen

Prayer For The Seasons–Podcast 142

Prayer For The Seasons

Prayer For The Seasons

Dear Goddess, Thank you for seeing us through another entire tax season. Perhaps the next season will be less stressful. Perhaps the process will be streamlined.

Now it is time for spring cleaning and planting a garden: vegetables for food, flowers for beauty. The four seasons give great opportunity for adjustment and fine-tuning of our bodily energy systems. For instance, as energy rises from the earth in spring time, we capture the synergy into our collective heart and sing songs and dance with purifying breezes.

Summer brings with it cleansing heat to our bodies and long days with picnics and celebrations, sunbathing and sun appreciation. Pearlie likes to take her long walks in the cool of a summer morning. Those moments before the sun reaches her zenith are the only time to get things done. But Pearlie’s walks are always on the top of the list.

Autumn reminds us of endings and contemplation as the days shorten after the summer solstice. The nights grow longer. The sky brings dramatic changes of dark and light, and weather can be unpredictable. Autumn brings with it the reminder of the winter ahead.

As winter begins, the days grow ever shorter, yet weather is perfect for outdoor winter sports. Ice is a reality for us in winter. Slipping and falling on ice is a good way to die. Yak Tracks are in my future for the next cycle of the winter months.

Winter is a beautiful season. All seasons are perfectly gorgeous in their own way. We live on the Conestoga River and in Winter I can see clear down to the Lancaster County Park and clear up to the bridge that takes travelers to historic Lancaster City. As close as we are to the city, we are protected from it by wildfowl, raccoons, Red Fox, Eagles, Heron and Hawk. The barking red fox and woot of the Owl is sublime as I lie listening by an open window.

And always the return of spring time. This year it was late by at least a month. We were still slipping and sliding on ice as recently as 30 days ago. Thankfully we have a four-wheel-drive vehicle to brave the 280 foot Lane we live on. I am always pray-full when the snowstorms move in. I still have to get to home births in Amish country. Braving weather conditions strengthens me and makes me fearless. But I don’t ever look forward to facing the reality of a snowstorm in the middle of the night – the times I work.

Calling in the guardian angels is always a good idea, for every season, for every endeavor.

Om Peace Amen
